Company Announces More Than $100,000 in Community Donations
RICHMOND, Virginia (November 19, 2014) – CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars,
officially opened its second store in Raleigh, North Carolina, located at 8007 Wild Wood Forest Drive. The store is more than 50,000-square-feet, occupies
more than 16 acres and stocks more than 300 used vehicles.
In celebration of the new Raleigh store opening, CarMax is donating $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County. The nonprofit was selected for its
positive impact on children in the local community. A club location also recently hosted CarMax volunteers who helped with homework, played sports with
club members, and participated in art and holiday decoration projects.
“At CarMax, our associates care deeply about where we live and work, and we continue to make it a priority to support our community,” said John Robinson,
location general manager of the new Raleigh CarMax. “Nobody understands customers better than we do, so we look forward to matching customers with their
perfect car at our second Raleigh location.”
The CarMax Foundation also announced a $15,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County for the organization’s Project Learn, a multi-pronged
approach to academic success that focuses on homework assistance, tutoring, mentorships, service learning, experiential education, and leadership
opportunities. Project Learn serves 4,700 youth in Wake County and this grant came at the recommendation of local CarMax associates. The CarMax Foundation
has granted more than $20 million on behalf of associates across the country since 2003.
The CarMax Foundation also has invested approximately $85,000 into building a playground in the Wake County community. The playground was built last month
through a partnership with PLM Families Together and KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit ensuring that all kids get the
balance of play they need to become healthy and successful adults. One of 30 playgrounds The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM! are building nationwide as part
of a larger $4.1 million national partnership, the playground will help give more than 200 children in and around the Raleigh neighborhood the joyful
childhood they deserve.
