Announces $30,000 in Contributions to Local Nonprofit

RICHMOND, Virginia (October 29, 2014) – CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, today celebrated its first store in Reno, Nevada. The store, located at 35 Auto Center Drive, is the company’s third store in Nevada.

During a grand opening celebration, CarMax announced that The CarMax Foundation will invest $20,000 toward providing the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows with an Imagination Playground. Imagination Playground is an innovative design in play equipment that encourages creativity, communication and collaboration in play. With a collection of custom-designed, oversized blue foam parts, Imagination Playground provides a changing array of elements that allow children to turn their playground into a space constantly built and re-built by their imagination. The playground will be donated as part of The CarMax Foundation’s $4.1 million national partnership with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit working to ensure that all kids get the balance of play they need to become healthy and successful adults.

“Giving back to the community is an important part of CarMax’s culture,” said Tom Folliard, president and CEO of CarMax. “In addition to helping Reno customers find their perfect vehicle, we are excited to help provide resources for area kids to engage in healthy and creative play.”

In addition to donating the Imagination Playground, The CarMax Foundation also announced a $10,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows for the Project Learn educational program. This grant came at the recommendation of local CarMax associates and will impact more than 2,000 local youth. Since 2003, The CarMax Foundation has donated more than $20 million on behalf of associates across the country.

“CarMax associates are the most valued part of our company,” said Hal Mintun, location general manager of the CarMax Reno store. “We work to hire individuals who value integrity above all else, and we definitely found that in Reno! We are excited about our 75 new associates in this store.”
