Company Celebrates Rochester store with “Road Rally” for Charity Event
RICHMOND, Va. (March 13, 2014) – CarMax, Inc., (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, officially
opened its first store in Rochester, N.Y. today. The store, located at 3600
West Henrietta Road
, is the company’s first store in New York state, and will stock more than 250 used vehicles of nearly every make and model.
“We are excited that our growth has allowed us to introduce the unique CarMax concept to car shoppers in New York state,” said Tom Folliard, president and
CEO of CarMax. “Our team is ready to help Rochester-area residents find their perfect vehicle.”
Local dignitaries and CarMax associates attended a grand opening event at the new location today. The event included a “Road Rally” for charity featuring
local television personalities competing in contests, including a game of driving skill. CarMax donated $1,000 to each participant’s charity, and the
winner’s charity received an additional $1,000.
The CarMax Rochester Road Rally participants and their charities of choice included WHEC meteorologist Josh Nichols driving for theUniversity of Rochester Medical Center; WROC sports director John Kucko for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Rochester/Monroe County; and WHAM and FOX Rochester sports director
Mike Catalana driving for Holy Childhood.
The CarMax Foundation, which supports the communities where CarMax associates live and work, provided a $10,000 grant to Rochester Childfirst Network’s
Summer STEM Discovery Project. This grant came at the recommendation of local CarMax associates. The CarMax Foundation has granted more than $19 million on
behalf of associates across the country since 2003. CarMax is also proud to partner with the Rochester Lilac Festival and Rochester Red Wings.
CarMax opened its first store in Richmond, Va., 20 years ago after the company surveyed thousands of consumers to find out what they liked and disliked
about car shopping. CarMax was designed according to the survey responses, giving consumers what they asked for:
