RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 2012--
College students are always on the go, and they want to be in a stylish
vehicle, while their parents want them to be in a safe and reliable
vehicle. As we head into a new school year, CarMax,
Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, and Insurance
Information Network of California (IINC) have teamed up to provide a
list of the top cars for college students that will satisfy both the
students’ and parents’ priorities.
The list is based on the past four years of fuel economy, design,
features, affordability and reliability, as well as safety features
recommended by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This year’s
top ten recommended for college students includes (in alphabetical order
by manufacturer):
-
Chevrolet Malibu
-
Chrysler 200
-
Ford Fusion
-
Honda Accord
-
Honda Civic (four door)
-
Honda Element
-
Hyundai Sonata
-
Kia Forte
-
Kia Soul
-
Toyota Camry
“Finding that vehicle that has a young driver’s desired look and
features while meeting a parent’s budget and safety requirements can be
quite a challenge,” said
Stephane Kintz
, purchasing manager for CarMax
in Memphis, Tenn. “Doing online research, test driving different models
and having open conversations about this purchase can lead to a choice
that fulfills everyone’s criteria.”
“The make and model of the car you choose can impact how much you pay
for insurance. So selecting a car that's performed well in crash tests
may save your life — and save you money," said IINC Executive Director
Candysse Miller.
Consumers visiting carmax.com can read reviews
and safety ratings for nearly every make and model, while searching
through an inventory of more than 30,000 vehicles. Searches can be
narrowed down by features,
price and fuel economy so each individual can feel comfortable with the
decision.
