Parents Say Music a Must for Long Road Trips, According to CarMax Survey

RICHMOND, Va., Jun 24, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Parents say music is a must on long road trips with the family this summer, according to a recent telephone survey conducted for CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation's largest retailer of used cars.

The survey is part of the CarMax LUV2DRV Facebook campaign that aims to help families make the most of every moment of their journey to their summer vacation destination. Facebook users have until July 6 to enter the LUV2DRV giveaway for a chance to win a grand prize of $2,500 and additional items for a road trip. For terms and conditions of the giveaway, click here.

According to the survey, 42 percent of respondents said they'd rate the stress level for their upcoming summer car trip a five or higher (on a ten point scale), and on average the trip will be about 8.5 hours one way. Also, 46 percent of respondents indicated they couldn't live without music on these long trips to help ease anxiety.

About the Survey

The survey was conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of CarMax. The national, random sample consisted of 508 U.S. adults who were interviewed by telephone during April 11 - April 19, 2010. Of those surveyed, a "none of the above/not applicable" option was provided and had the following responses: could not live without (5 percent), type of car (2 percent) and must-have accessory (7 percent).
