Company Makes List Third Consecutive Year
RICHMOND, Va., Feb 02, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- CarMax, Inc. (NYSE:KMX), the nation's largest retailer of used cars, has been named for the third straight year to Training magazine's Training Top 125. CarMax came in this year at No. 26, up thirty-one spots from the previous year.

Training magazine, the training industry's premiere publication, annually selects 125 organizations that excel at associate development. These companies are chosen based on criteria such as best training practices, evaluation methods and outstanding training initiatives.

"Training is directly linked to our company goals of associate development and associate engagement," said Tom Folliard, president and chief executive officer of CarMax. "As we focus on building a better CarMax, we are committed to providing the tools and materials our associates need to succeed in their current roles and beyond."

CarMax regularly adds new training content and reviews existing content to guarantee that the curriculum meets the needs of the business. Among CarMax's most comprehensive training programs:

  • Intensive sales training based on core sales skills developed from CarMax's own top performers, including online video testimonials, scenario-based exercises and extensive practice/role playing with a mentor
  • Classroom training that employs hands-on activities combined with real-world application exercises
  • Annual Culture of Integrity training which ensures that all CarMax associates understand the importance of maintaining the highest ethical standards

On average, each CarMax associate completes 40 hours of training per year. Through KMX University, CarMax's learning management system, associates can view position development plans, launch online courses, register for classroom training, view behavior-modeling video clips, print self-paced training workbooks and complete assessments.
