RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2009--
CarMax, Inc. (NYSE:KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used
cars, has been named for the second consecutive year to Training
magazine’s Training Top 125. CarMax came in this year at number
fifty-seven. The company made its debut on the prestigious list last
year.
Training magazine, the training industry’s premiere publication,
annually selects 125 organizations that excel at associate development.
These companies are chosen based on criteria such as best training
practices, evaluation methods and outstanding training initiatives.
“Developing our associates and creating an environment where everyone
can reach their professional goals remains a priority,” said
Tom
Folliard
, president and chief executive officer of CarMax.
“We continue to expand and improve existing training programs and look
for ways to build a better company by investing in our associates.”
Responsibility for training is shared throughout the organization, with
many programs delivered by front-line managers who are certified
facilitators. Among CarMax’s most comprehensive training programs:
-
Extensive Sales Training that combines traditional classroom and
practical training with peer mentoring
-
An intensive management program called BASE Camp that includes
hands-on activities combined with real-world application exercises
that provide individuals an opportunity to work as a member of a
cross-functional team
-
Culture of Integrity Training, which ensures that all CarMax
associates understand the importance of maintaining the highest
ethical standards
The average CarMax associate completed a minimum of 13 online or
classroom courses in the past 12 months, averaging 86 hours of training
per associate. At the core of CarMax’s training capabilities is KMX
University, a platform that helped the company to deliver more than
250,000 individual training events last year. Associates can view
position development plans, launch online courses, register for
classroom training, print self-paced training workbooks, take exams that
automatically register course completions, and review their own personal
training histories.
