As executive vice president, chief operating officer, Joe Wilson leads field strategy and store execution for the company’s more than 230 stores nationwide, auction business, customer experience centers, and logistics services. Mr. Wilson leads the company’s pricing and inventory strategies and has played a key leadership role in advancing the efficiency of sourcing and managing CarMax inventory throughout the last two decades. Mr. Wilson is a champion of CarMax’s people-first culture and helps lead developmental and change initiatives across the field.
To support the company’s digital transformation and evolution to an omni-channel retailer, Mr. Wilson has led initiatives to help drive seamlessness between customers’ digital and in-store experiences, to enable exceptional customer and associate experience. In addition, his team led the transition to digital auctions, resulting in sustained growth in the overall auction business, including network logistics and capabilities.
Mr. Wilson first joined CarMax in 1995 as a buyer-in-training in Raleigh. Before being promoted to his current role, he served in a variety of roles including senior vice president, store strategy and logistics; vice president, merchandising operations; vice president, auction services and merchandising development; assistant vice president, auction services and merchandising development; regional vice president of merchandising; purchasing manager; and senior buyer.
He received his Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Richmond.
